ABSTRACT

The sociological concept of ideology is initially belonged to the Marxist system. The notion of ideology in the sociology of knowledge makes no clear reference to the class interest and thus lacks in the political explicitness. This disquietude alone provides the genuine background for the evaluative character of the total-general concept of ideology in the sociology of knowledge. The radical suspicion of the ideology arose from a particular understanding of the human spirit: human beings live in harmony with their spirit if they make proper use of it. The concept of ideology in the sociology of knowledge can be related to the Kantian concept of category, especially as it is formulated in the philosophy of value. In the transition from the theory of ideologies to the sociology of knowledge, certain principles have been carried over as well; it is the task of philosophy to assess their validity.
