ABSTRACT

As a representative of informal logic as a fi eld, it behooves me to say that it would be a mistake to speak of it as though it were characterized by a single methodology. In a manner in keeping with IL’s roots in philosophical discussion – philosophers seldom agreeing with one another – informal logicians often approach the subject in different ways. In a forthcoming book on the methods of informal logic, Hansen emphasizes the point that scholars might best speak of informal logic s and the different methodologies this implies.
