ABSTRACT

Mines serve an important purpose. Valuable minerals, raw materials, gems, and rare metals are extracted from them. In the past, when the mines were spent of their value, companies would often abandon them, leaving an open shaft. Therapists are advised to avoid as much as possible the 'skills' such as advice giving, band-aiding, condemning questions, disidentification, minimization, overidentification, double questions. The therapist provides the client with advice that thinks the client should follow to have a better life. The therapist jumps in and saves the client from experiencing strong emotional feelings by strongly communicating to the client. The therapist asks questions that have the effect of putting the client down for what she is expressing or feeling and makes the client feel as though she is being judged and is wrong for expressing views. The therapist loses the ability to understand the deeper meaning of the client or hear the voice and story of the client.
