ABSTRACT

Brief therapy used to take the deeper meaning of what the client is saying and frame it in a more positive way. Much of the therapy effort involves an attempt to help the client move from a crisis or strong personal issue confronting one to a more positive state of mind. Using skills found in this chapter allows therapist to offer pragmatic and specific ways to start the process of solution building. Group therapy connects individuals within a group on a certain topic to promote greater discussion among the group members and increased cohesion between members. The therapist provides the client with a phrase, story, or fable that connects indirectly to what is being discussed in therapy. Universal skill provides the client with a story or simple statement that compares two dissimilar objects, the client's thoughts or behaviors and a more palatable object.
