ABSTRACT

A mirage is simply a manifestation of how a person wants things to be instead of how they really are. In dealing with the client's distorted view of reality, the therapist uses a set of skills designed to dispute the client's story. The therapist makes a statement that draws attention to discrepancies in the client's words, actions, or story. Group therapy used to make an action, thought, or behavior overt for the individual and the rest of the group to see. It is a form of confrontation. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy used to point out and alert the client to the fact that a previously modified behavior has returned. The therapist alerts the client that the unwanted behavior has returned. It is important that the client be prepared for such feedback. The therapist uses verbal or nonverbal skills to either slow down or stop the client.
