ABSTRACT
Carl Gustav Jung grew up on the outskirts of Basel in the shadow of the cathedral and the city. In his own career as a scholar-physician and psychotherapist, Jung blended the two traditions of medical science and theology, cure of body and cure of soul, consciously continuing the work of both sides of his ancestral heritage and integrating them. Jung interpreted his dream as being an indication of his unique cultural heritage. It recalled to him his lost self, his suppressed second personality, which the mentorship was limiting. In Symbols of Transformation, Jung analyzed the normal process of early adult development through the study of a case of a pre-psychotic young woman. During the years 1900-12 Jung accomplished the developmental tasks of early adulthood, establishing a home, a family, and beginning a successful ascent up the career ladder as a scholar and physician in a Swiss mental hospital.
