ABSTRACT

The menopause is a significant life-event marking the end of a woman’s reproductive lifespan. For most women the menopause (final menstrual period) occurs between 45 and 55 years (average 51 in the UK) but this varies widely. Up to 5% of women will experience premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) leading to menopause before 40 – these women require special consideration (page 211).
