Malory, nothing substantive happened to Merlin in that time. The

cycles continued to be popular, and several adaptations appeared in

English, though none of these was a thorough reconstruction along

new imaginative lines as Malory's was to be.1 I do not intend to

2 cover all angles on Malory*s use of the supernatural, or even

Merlin in particular, but I will bring in some ideas which grow from

the previous chapters to serve as a focal point for summarizing my

conclusions.
