ABSTRACT
Moscow (Moskva) is located in thewest of EuropeanRussia, on theRiverMoskva. It is connected to the Volga river system by the Moscow-Volga Canal. Moscow is in the Central Federal Okrug and the Central Economic Area. The city’s total area is 2,510 sq km (970 sq miles). According to official estimates, at January 2013 Moscow City had a total population of 11,979,529 and a population density of 4,737.4 per sq km. Some 98.9% of the population lived in urban areas. The city has a south-western boundary with Kaluga Oblast; it is surrounded to the north-west, north and south-east by Moscow Oblast. were Tatar and 1.0% were Armenian. The city is in the time zone GMT+4.
