ABSTRACT

Forests are home to the vast majority of land-based species. Some 1.6 billion people depend on them for their livelihoods, while all of us rely on the services they provide, like storing carbon and supplying clean water. New Generation Plantations (NGP) is learning and influencing platform led by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and set up with the private sector and government agencies to promote dialogue and co-construct sustainable solutions for plantation management. WWF's Living Forests Report is part of an ongoing conversation with stakeholders, policy makers and business about how to protect, conserve, sustainably use and govern the world's forests in the twenty-first century. Virunga National Park, established in 1925, is one of the most remarkable places on the planet. It has the greatest variety of wildlife found anywhere in Africa, with more than 200 species of mammals including elephants, chimpanzees and gorillas.
