ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the case study employing iPads and augmented reality (AR) with a clear educational/pedagogical focus. The case study explains the problems and possibilities examined in terms of factors enhancing or potentially blocking the movement from project to everyday use and implementation. The chapter aims to help students to learn about the human body through a virtual, situated model, AR providing students with a reality as close as possible to the real human bodies of their future patients. The Inquiry-Based Science Education (IBSE) approach is very much supported by the AR application, allowing students to explore, inquire, be active, and collaborate. The three organizational units were influential in providing opportunities for sustainability are Research Centre for ICT and Learning, Faculty of Health Sciences, and the School of Nursing. The use of AR is very much attuned to a distinct pedagogical approach, namely that of IBSE, which again requires teachers to agree with the advantages embodied in this pedagogy.
