ABSTRACT

The reflective practice is a process that aims to help the practitioner to achieve a better understanding of themselves, and their skills, competencies and knowledge in order to enhance and develop their professional capability. A reflective practitioner is a worker who is able to use experience, knowledge and theoretical perspectives to guide and inform practice. Dewey's ideas provided a basis for the concept of reflective practice. Metacognition is increasingly recognised as a crucial component of effective learning and an important aspect to developing skills in lifelong learning and reflective practice. Individual and collective reflective practices are not mutually exclusive of each other but rather are part of the same learning process. Reflective practice is an approach that involves a personal commitment to continuous learning and improvement, and a willingness to take responsibility for one own continual professional development.
