ABSTRACT

This chapter shows how one work with young people in groups. It explores the importance of groups before taking us through some practical steps that enable people to think about the efficacy of the group's one are part of and work with. Most people involved in youth work acknowledge that groups and group work are central to our practice. The challenges that a group faces but one also acknowledge that where one expect to see some 'doing' and 'delivering'. The chapter focuses on anti-oppressive practice sets out, group behaviours often reflect cultural norms. It explains own relationship with the groups around people before setting out approaches to working with particular groups. The chapter also draws on approaches used in network theory. In essence, network theory is used to explain the organisation and 'representation of societies' by investigating who one are connected to, what these connections mean and how they enable us to consolidate or change our identities, relationships or circumstances.
