ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores the ideas that make up the subject of science are at the heart of the joy of teaching it. It also explores the own ideas about some of the fundamental concepts in science and how they fit together, in some kind of order that allows to make sense of it for the students. It is likely that any group of science teachers in a school will have arrived via different routes, with different degrees and science specialisms. Depending on the school's structure and philosophy, it may be that only teach physics, chemistry or biology. The book addresses the issues that are relevant to all teachers of science in general, with examples and specific ideas from physics, chemistry and biology woven in. Teaching great science lessons is not just the professional responsibility; it is the most rewarding job one can think of.
