ABSTRACT

Revision exercise revises the process of note-making, paraphrasing, summarising and referencing discussed in preceding chapters. It shows how a relevant source can be accurately incorporated into our work. Synonyms should also be used when paraphrasing or note-making to avoid plagiarism. The notes are paraphrased, not copied from the text. The language is simplified and symbols are used. When paraphrasing, alter the structure as well as the vocabulary. The purpose of academic writing includes the possiblities are: semi-formal vocabulary, lack of idioms, use of citation/references, use of both passive and active voice. Before making notes, one need to find the main ideas in a text. These are included in the topic sentence, which is often, but not always, the first sentence of a paragraph. When preparing to write an essay, one have to search for information and ideas relevant to the subject.
