ABSTRACT

In the early stages of rehearsal performers are asked to improvise using rolls and lifts without ever coming off the floor. Smooth contact work looks at taking the effort and conflict out of physical contact. Movement can be a heightened reality and can be rooted in everyday situations and, most poignantly, be performed by everyday characters. Young groups may be suitably fascinated by a creative devising process, but the repetition and polishing needed to make any scene ready for performance might be a new demand upon them. By applying the maxim to the rehearsal the targets are clear. Frantic Assembly makes work that is essentially physical in its creation and execution. The experience of being able to do this has always substantiated what knew from day one, none of this would have been possible without warming up each and every day. Quad exercise is a Frantic favourite and is useful in getting people used to count structures.
