ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the practical starting points of both words and images as creative stimulants. It also looks at the keys to a successful relationship with a writer in a collaborative environment. When working with text one may be setting out on a piece of collaborative new writing or working as choreographer on an existing text. The subtext is crucial and it is very important to aim to express what is not said verbally. One may even have the title 'movement director' and be asked to consider all physical aspects of the production. Every bizarre stage direction appeared to be linked to an emotion, an effect on the beholder. It was not just about actually being able to climb up the pylon in the middle of an electrical storm. Writing Silence was the task designed to get the writers to think about writing in a different way.
