ABSTRACT

Training for high stakes examinations such as GCSEs and GCEs, needs to begin in Year 7. The language used is generic and should, therefore, be noted on the Key Words page from the outset. Subject teachers use key words consistently and give the pupil with Asperger Syndrome (AS) a handout with the definitions, what they mean in an examination context, for easy reference. The author recommend that the pupil with AS is familiarised with the format of the examination paper well in advance of the examination. If the examination paper offers choices they will need to be taught how to navigate it efficiently by using the index. Maths examinations can be difficult for the pupil with AS, who is able to do complex equations in their head. Some may not be able to tell you how they arrived at the answer. It is therefore important that you train them to go through each question step by step.
