ABSTRACT

There is considerable debate about the precise definition of sustainable development. It should also be noted that several levels of sustainability may be considered. Sustainable development itself is a generic term whilst sustainable tourism and leisure refers to a specific sector of this development. At the widest level, sustainable development embraces those planet-threatening issues of global warming, resource depletion and ozone loss. Sustainability can also be considered at a national economy level, at a local level and at an individual leisure or tourism project level.
