ABSTRACT

So far in my discussion of the proposed multilevel taxonomy of visual perception, I have considered the physical processes that modulate the proximal stimulus (Level 0) and the receptor processes that initially transform the afferent

information flow (Levell). In Chapter 7 I digressed to consider a number of topics related to the temporal properties of the stimulus that cannot be exclusively analyzed into either receptor or neural network processes. The situation, however, is far clearer when we consider the set of phenomena that are best encompassed within the Level 2 rubric.
