ABSTRACT

Roberta Carreri is one of acclaimed theatre company Odin Teatret's longest-serving actors, and the last to be trained by Eugenio Barba himself. In this book, she relives the milestones of her professional journey, including: her first experiences of street theatre. The first session of ISTA was held in Bonn. Eugenio thought of inserting the lion dance in The Million and so he asked Katsuko Azuma, a master of Nihon Buyo, to teach it to author. Working with Katsuko Azuma on the basic positions of the Japanese classical dance was a decisive experience in her professional development. In addition to Katsuko's lessons, author also attended the daily demonstrations of Balinese and Peking Opera masters, and every afternoon she met with Sanjukta Panigrahi for an hour to learn the basic positions of Odissi dance. For years her Odissi dances had lit up the scene of Theatrum Mundi and filled the spectator's hearts with strength and beauty.
