ABSTRACT

Students with disabilities are going to be challenged to excel within the general curriculum and be prepared for success in their post-school lives; this includes college and/or careers. According to Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), each student with a disability has Individualized Education Plan (IEP), and educational planning is determined on an individual basis. This chapter describes the infusion of the Common Core standards into the educational plans of the students with disabilities, students under 504, and students at risk and the services and accommodations to support them. Since the inception of No Child Left behind (NCLB) in 2002, the balancing act of meeting educational accountability for all children across the nation began. Measurable achievement gaps for at risk groups of students in math and English have created an urgent need to engage in systematic school improvement to increase achievement outcomes for all students.
