ABSTRACT

The previous chapter introduced the idea of holistic agency based upon two archetypal structures underlying the way in which we play out our lives; it also emphasised the complexity of our being and becoming, and the way in which so much that we ‘know’ is not as certain as we like to think. This chapter extends this line of thought through an exploration of represen tation. This is inspired by the circumstances surrounding the withdrawal from my workspace five years after I finished salaried full-time employment. This account leads to questions around the relationship between space and self-the physicality of reality and what constitutes the fact so created. In so doing it picks up the discussion about representation in the previous chap ter. That these questions on the nature of ‘fact’ are asked via the ‘fiction’ of the autobiographical is also explored. The issues that are raised in this account reverberate throughout the rest of the book.
