ABSTRACT

In so far as a book about becoming can be said to conclude, then this chapter concludes the book. I hope, however, I have opened more lines of thought than I have closed, and that I have introduced a way of thinking that is constructive rather than limiting. I have referred to ‘HRD’ through out the book, because this is one book in a series on HRD, and because that is the field of study that I am addressing, but my model and arguments apply equally to any field of study that involves human development. It is self-referential, in that different fields of study can, themselves, be located within the model. For example, the concerns of psychology could be con sidered analogous to the selfother construct, and those of sociology to the agencystructure construct. In the same way, more applied areas, such as ‘Education’, ‘Management Learning’, ‘Behaviour in Organisations’, ‘Devel opment Studies’, and so on, look at the interface between individuals and organisations, and my thesis is relevant to them all.
