It focuses primarily on music in the categories of music-product partnership and product music or brand music. The chapter examines the distinctive short formats, and presents the distinctive long formats that is the groove, the tune, and the song. Emblems and jingles are formats of short duration; emblems represent a relatively recent development, and jingles embody commercial music par excellence. It also introduces the medley, which can be considered a distinctive long format type of music-product. Indistinct music refers to musical expressions in commercials that are not prominent and do not attract attention. Background music is music that is subordinated to the background, to accompany either the visual images and the dialogue between characters in a commercial or the voiceover of a narrator.
