ABSTRACT

This chapter presents case studies that illustrate a flavour of other people's experience of successful anaerobic digestion (AD) plant installations. It shows the process the operators went through to achieve what they have, if the intent is to emulate that success. The case study on Reinford Farms illustrates piping configuration to direct raw manure; digester effluent piping configuration to allow bypass of the solids/liquid separation system; and the importance of proper signage for manways. The case study on Kemble Farms illustrates installation issues, legislation, licensing and regulation procedures. The case study on Laforge Bioenvironmental shows how the minor alterations in off-farm feedstock being supplied led to a 'foaming' issue which in turn resulted in a pH drop, requiring lime to be added to the mix. The chapter also discusses other case studies, include, Juhnde AD Plant, GWE Biogas Ltd, Linko Gas, Bank Farm, Lodge Farm, and Hillsborough AD Plant.
