ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on a feasibility study that is be to establish various costs for a given anaerobic digestion (AD) project. These include, financing and legal costs; electrical and/or gas connection costs; and costs of licences. The commonality of AD in particular location also be an indicator of the willingness of grid operators to enable a connection and subsequently the cost of that connection. There are so many conflicting rules of thumb and general guidance figures for likely capital costs available from central governments, local governments, manufacturers and universities that it is fair to say there are no reliable rules of thumb or guidance figures. The cost of feedstock can vary from trivial to significant and from positive to negative. The difference between the animal by-product (ABP) compliant schemes and the non-compliant schemes is significant and shows the potential effect of the feedstock on the finances, as well as the effect of scale.
