ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a story of Tejaswini Patil who is Lecturer at Federation University and Dr. Michelle Moss to model reflective practice learning. Tejaswini writing in her own voice acknowledges that her journey, including dialogue, critical feedback and discussion, was only possible through collaboration with her field supervisor, Michelle. She develops a deeper awareness of contexts and environments she now occupies, navigating differences in language and cultural practices. Tejaswini reflect on her journey through social work education by discussing how critical reflective learning is central to making connections between personal histories and developing professional self. Tejaswini enrolled in qualifying Master of Social Work program at one of the universities in Australia after having completed her doctoral studies in sociology at University of South Australia. Her position in Australia as a non-white woman with English as a second language paradoxically intersected with reflecting on her positionality as Hindu middle class woman and her participation in Hindu majoritarian discourse of Muslim othering.
