ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights the challenges of entering the physical education teaching profession for the first time and the induction process that newly qualified teachers (NQTs) are likely to experience. It offers some practical advice for newly qualified physical education teachers seeking their first teaching post, and embarking on their first year in teaching and meeting the requirements for all new teachers through the induction programme for NQTs. The chapter focuses on vignettes of NQTs, and examines the requirements of the induction year for NQTs. It also highlights the experiences and support that an NQT can expect in their first year of teaching physical education that go beyond that which can be easily found on the internet. Ken Green explains that newly qualified physical education teachers learn, accept and implement customary strategies as they are junior members of staff and keen to fit in with and become established among their colleagues.
