ABSTRACT

In this chapter our aim is to discuss the history of the Øresund region in order to understand how different territorial strategies support different cross-bordering strategies. We focus on how local actors and policies (both public and private) aim to create and transform institutions that foster the conditions for cross-border regional spaces. Having this focus means that we are interested first and foremost in institutional processes behind cross-border regionalisation, related to the ‘how’ of territorial strategy as explored in chapter 4 and in several of the other cases in this book. However, our interest in this chapter is also to reflect more critically on cross-border regions (CBRs) and to take a normative position.
