ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the basic outline of a flipped classroom. Math is the most common and easily understood, with the help of Khan Academy tools, almost all math skills are easily reviewed and introduced with videos online. A learner might be asked to watch a video on two-digit multiplication with carrying online and given a link emailed home to the parents indicating this is their homework. The tasks that are done normally during the school day the learner does them during homework time. The practice session, which would have normally been given as homework, is offered as an in-class experience with guidance from the instructor. In some ways, given modern technology, the flipped classroom makes a lot of sense. It allows to avoid problems such as parents not being available to help their children with their homework, and it creates a much more student-centered learning environment in the classroom, with the teacher coaching rather than presenting.
