ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to map and typologies Danish counter-radicalisation efforts in light of the recent revisions, and to provide some critical reflections on the logic and practice of particularly the key initiatives of individual de-radicalisation interventions based on mentoring practices. The goal of individually targeted mentor interventions is de-radicalization and the mentoring strategy will offer some critical reflections on the logic and practice of individual de-radicalisation interventions. The chapter argues that the move from a comprehensive and holistic counter-radicalisation action plan to a much narrower focus on targeted interventions, abandoning elements of 'battling extremist ideas' in general and 'tackling root causes of radicalisation'. It highlights a number of enduring challenges and pitfalls in implementing such targeted de-radicalisation interventions. This challenge is in no way unique to targeted de-radicalisation interventions, but common to all such targeted interventions with vulnerable adolescents. However, the potential negative feedback may be more severe in these cases.
