ABSTRACT

The nature and pursuit of peace is situated first in the context of information and communication technology (ICT) and, second, datafication. The latter term refers to processes leading to the assignment of numerical values to social, spatial and genetic relationships. Several relevant technologies are surveyed, and a review is carried out of new collective action theory. The chapter considers how ICT and datafication address individual and collective security needs in areas where the state is weak, missing or predatory, and closes with a discussion of the connection between accountability and peace.
