ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the data-collection techniques used to gather information on the existing linkages between tourism and agriculture in Niue. It then highlights the perspectives of key stakeholders, for example, growers, small and medium-sized tourism enterprises (SMTEs) and government officials, on the strength of current linkages between the two sectors. The economy of Niue, like most economies of South Pacific small island developing states (SIDS), mainly consists of the traditional agriculture sector and tourism industry. Niue has a population of fewer than 1,500 people and its tourism industry contributes 13" towards the country's gross domestic product (GDP), while the agriculture sector remains the highest contributor (34"). Niue's tourism industry is small. Popular websites that provide tourism information are audited to examine what information they provide, especially on culture, agriculture, food- and village-based experiences for tourists prior to their travel to Niue. The strength of linkages between tourism and agriculture is influenced by factors related to demand, supply, production and marketing.
