ABSTRACT

For school pupils the most vital thing of all is that they can hear the teacher and see what the teacher is doing. Teachers want pupils to hear them without the need to raise their voices, and have a good view of everything that is going on. Teachers also

want enough practical storage in the right place so that they are not constantly lugging things around.1 And they want somewhere quiet where they can work in peace. As one architect said in response to a presentation on this topic recently: ‘It’s common sense really.’ But why is this not the norm? And is a remark like ‘It’s common sense’ from an architect a compliment or a put down? It’s sometimes hard to tell.
