ABSTRACT

Depending upon one’s perspective, forgiveness is many things: something we request, desire, need, discuss, reflect upon, question, reject, fear, or celebrate. Forgiveness involves deliberation as well as automaticity, introspection as well as communication, biology as well as culture. It waxes and wanes over time, is sensitive to personality differences, contextualized by religious doctrines, and deeply personal. And while often considered divine, it also appears remarkably commonplace (McCullough, 2008).
