ABSTRACT

The intersection between new media and migrant workers is a scholarly domain that deserves special attention in Asian contexts, particularly in China. In recent years, Internet and mobile communication in Asia have become notable research topics in the region and globally (Lo and Wei 2010; Qiu 2010). However, as Qiu and Bu (2013) discovered from a comprehensive review of China ICT studies in both Chinese and English languages, only a small proportion of academic publications deal with issues related to less privileged users such as migrant workers.
