ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts of key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explores the question of what the future of the wind industry is and which countries and companies will dominate it. European power markets urgently need redesigning, but major governments such as that of Germany are unlikely to want to abandon long-held policy goals and establish a framework that would enshrine a comeback for imported fossil fuels. Wind's ability to innovate, to overcome technical barriers and lower costs continues to be key, as it goes head-to-head with thermal and nuclear projects for a large piece of the global power industry. While they are minor players in the market today, it would be unwise to rule out Korea's Samsung and Japan's MHI as potential majors. There are also specialist players with major strengths in terms of technical knowhow, such as Spain's Gamesa and Germany's Enercon, as well as Suzlon-repower.
