ABSTRACT

This conference provides an opportunity to see where developments of the past will lead in the future. If we are to look into the future, we can only do so on the basis of present accomplishments. In this paper, I discuss convolution and correlation, two methods of processing information that may be important in human perception and memory. They are methods that have recently found important applications in other areas of information processing (e.g., image processing by computers, holography) and perhaps have relevance to human information processing as well. What I discuss is an abstract model. It may provide a useful way of thinking about how the brain might function.
