ABSTRACT

The purpose of an economic analysis is to help a community become aware of its economic performance and the dynamics that are driving that performance. There is no more important planning function than economic development planning. The quantity and quality of jobs produced by the local economy have a two-way relationship with the community's housing. The level of wages will have an effect on demand in terms of housing type and size. The performance of the local economy in terms of the quality and quantity of jobs has a direct relationship to the demographic composition of the community. The provision of facilities and services to a community's residents will be directly affected by the quality and quantity of the jobs that the economy produces. Lower household consumer spending reduces commercial activity and, in turn, property and other tax revenues, which pay for facilities and services.
