ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an essential background for identifying and diagnosing faults in performance through phase analysis model or performance outcome model for improving performance. Phase analysis model is sequential in nature and is based on the use of movement principles. Performance outcome model is hierarchical in nature used on the mechanical relationships. Qualitative biomechanical analysis is a method used to evaluate the performance of sports skills. It also requires an ability to integrate the sources of information as a part of the evaluation process. Techniques are analysed mostly with reference to specific individual sports skills based on observation and instruction to improve performance. Good technique is insensible to understand but improves the performances. With the technique developed the coach focuses on the coordination of the movement and speed of execution. It enables the enthusiastic student of sports science to undertake an effective analysis of sports technique using qualitative methods.
