ABSTRACT
Chapter 5 investigates the religious nature of Kyrgyz conversion and utilises the concept of religious capital to explore the process through which Kyrgyz conversion has occurred. An understanding of the religious dimensions of Kyrgyz conversion helps to identify important elements of both ethnic identity and religious change. This chapter emphasises the importance of understanding the level of religiosity and Muslim identity present among those who are converting and the wider community.
