ABSTRACT

Change is an exciting topic for young children. They begin to notice that the world around them changes and that their own actions can have an impact on it. They enjoy exploring the effect of their actions, beginning to develop their own investigations into changing materials. When one three-year-old exclaimed: ‘Where is my ice cube?’ (which he had placed in his nursery drawer to save for later) it was the start of a long-lasting interest in the effect of temperature on ice.
