ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on America's role and use of ROs in the international system, other powers also has interests in creating regional platforms. The role of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as a telling point of this logic. Examining state interests will also explain the emergence of selective regionalization in the international system. Hence, it is promising to talk about a geopolitical calculus among superior powers as it invests in regional security arrangements in order to maintain influence in world affairs. Despite strong backing from the Western powers in the Security Council, full support for the rebels could not be provided unless Russia and China backed more forceful UN action. Also is compatible with the idea that since 1945 USA has favoured selective regionalization in order to reinforce its international domination. Thus, it is also in this context that it is appropriate to consider the emergence of a world order characterized by selective regionalization.
