ABSTRACT

Forecasting is a dangerous occupation, and since the initial chapter of this book largely dealt with the limited success of market forecasting, this brief look at the future is not going to try and predict very much. Rather, the idea is to try to place such forecasting into a historical context. There has been a lot of change in the business of shipbuilding over many centuries. It was arguably the first global industry, has always been one of international competition and was the first to suffer, if not identify, many of the problems that a global industry must overcome.
