ABSTRACT
By absolute motion is meant motion assignable to a body or to any locatable phenomenon (e.g. a spot of light, region of high temperature, &c.) without reference to some other body or locatable phenomenon. By saying that such motion has no meaning, we assert that there is no observable effect by which we can determine whether an object is absolutely at rest or in motion, or whether it is moving with one velocity or another.
