chapter  13
Phase 3 – integration
Pages 10

Phases 1 and 2 of the three-phase treatment model focus on stabilizing the symptoms and on therapeutic processing of the traumatic past, respectively, whereas the fi nal part of the treatment, phase 3, covers interventions focused on continuing with life after the trauma; in other words, phase 3 focuses on how to continue living into the future and on the obstacles that still need to be addressed. In phase 3 clients have to bring closure to the diffi cult problems or behavioural patterns that were part of living with their trauma. The focus is on bringing out the stronger facets of the client’s personality and reinforcing them.
