ABSTRACT

The female basic block pattern uses the measurements taken from one model to create a pattern that will fit closely to the torso, providing a two-dimensional drawing of the body's three-dimensional shape. This basic block pattern is unique to the individual people are drafting for and can be adapted to create many other patterns. Drafting an accurate female basic block pattern for model will provide a foundation for historical pattern drafting. To draft the female basic block pattern follow both the written instructions and diagrams throughout the drafting process. The proportion of basic block pattern should closely resemble the diagrams provided, but may differ slightly to the example as the proportional measurements of one model are individual. Mark one pattern with the letters and numbers provided as one draft them and label each key line as shown for additional guidance.
