ABSTRACT

Full-boned corset bodice is from the first half of the 18th century and is part of the Charles Paget Wade Collection, Snowshill Manor, held by the National Trust at Berrington Hall. The stomacher is missing but the sleeves stay and still have some of the original blue ribbon that was used to attach them to the bodice. The linen lining shows signs of wear and tear, with particular areas having been repaired and patched. Although the tabs are included in the boned lining of the garment, the top fabric of the corset bodice does not go down onto the tabs, which are of a plain blue linen. The lining and outer fabric do not completely align, suggesting the updating of an older garment. The pattern created for this corset bodice will produce an exact silhouette without the full boning of the original.
