ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about the story of the pedagogical work undertaken in a Swedish preschool by a group of children and preschool teachers. The story is inspired and influenced also by the early childhood education of Reggio Emilia, in particular in the use made of pedagogical documentation, the importance attached to children as individual and group learners, and the adoption of an open-ended approach to project work with a strong emphasis on listening. In the Crow Project, however, one wanted to listen to the children more consciously and proceed in a fashion other than our conventional way of thinking about and understanding a science project. The aim was not to impart to the children any scientific truths about birds. The children's diverse ways of understanding and thinking constitute a very important and powerful driving force in the teaching process. Documentation in this case plays an important part in ensuring pedagogy of movement.
